Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are not aware, 202 Then they will say: Shall we be respited? 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised! 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 And We destroyed no township but it had its warners 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 Not by the Satans has it been brought down; 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 and spread the wings of thy tenderness over all of the believers who may follow thee; 215 And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing." 216 And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,- 217 who sees you when you stand 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 and say things which they do not act upon, 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
