Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 brought down by the Faithful Spirit 193 To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish. 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 Surely, it is foretold in the ancient scriptures. 196 Was it not a sign for them known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. 202 they say: "Can we be granted some respite?" 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 Did you consider that if We were to let them enjoy life for many years 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 For reminder, for We never were oppressors. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. 214 And lower thy wing to the Believers who follow thee. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They descend on every sinful, false one. 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; 224 hast thou not seen how they wander in every valley 225 And they say what they do not do, 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
