Stories (Al-Qasas)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ta. Sin. Mim. 1 These are the verses of the illustrious Book. 2 We shall narrate to you some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh, with truth, for people who would believe. 3 Surely Firon exalted himself in the land and made its people into parties, weakening one party from among them; he slaughtered their sons and let their women live; surely he was one of the mischiefmakers. 4 And We desired to show favour unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors, 5 and to establish them in the land; and to show Pharaoh and Haman, and their armies, the very thing they dreaded. 6 And We inspired the mother of Moses, saying: Suckle him and, when thou fearest for him, then cast him into the river and fear not nor grieve. Lo! We shall bring him back unto thee and shall make him (one) of Our messengers. 7 Then Pharaoh's household picked him up (from the river) that he may be their adversary and be a cause of sorrow to them. Surely Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts erred (in their scheming). 8 and Pharaoh's wife said, "He will be a joy to the eye for me and you! Do not slay him: he may well be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son." They did not realize what they were doing. 9 But there came to be a void in the heart of the mother of Moses: She was going almost to disclose his (case), had We not strengthened her heart (with faith), so that she might remain a (firm) believer. 10 She told his sister: "Follow him." So she kept an eye on him from a distance, unbeknown to them. 11 ۞ And We had already forbidden (other) foster suckling mothers for him, until she (his sister came up and) said: "Shall I direct you to a household who will rear him for you, and sincerely they will look after him in a good manner?" 12 So We returned him to his mother in order to soothe her eyes and not grieve, and to know that Allah’s promise is true – but most people do not know. 13
