Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ta-Seen-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever he reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 These are the verses of the illustrious Book. 2 We will recite to thee something of the tiding of Moses and Pharaoh truthfully, for a people who believe. 3 The Pharaoh had become high and mighty in the land, and divided the people into different classes, and impoverished one class, slaying its males and sparing its women, for he was indeed a tyrant. 4 We wished to favour those who were oppressed in the land, and to make them leaders and make them inheritors [of Our bounties], 5 and to give them power in the land; and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts that very thing which they feared. 6 And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers." 7 And the household of Fir'awn took him up, that he should become unto them an enemy and a grief. Verily Fir'awn and Haman and their hosts were sinners. 8 And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that). 9 The heart of Moses' mother was relieved and confident. But she would almost have made the whole matter public had We not strengthened her heart with faith. 10 She told Moses' sister to follow her brother. His sister watched him from one side and the people of the Pharaoh did not notice her presence. 11 ۞ And We had already forbidden suckle-nurses for him, so she said, “Shall I show you a household that will nurse this child of yours, and they are his well-wishers?” 12 Thus We restored him to his mother that she may be tranquil and not grieve, and know that the promise of God is true, though most men do not know. 13
