Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ta-Sin-Mim [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings] 1 These are verses of the Manifest Book. 2 We recount to you with truth some parts of the story of Moses and Pharaoh for the benefit of those who believe. 3 Truly Pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections, depressing a small group among them: their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: for he was indeed a maker of mischief. 4 And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors 5 and to establish them in the land, and to show Pharaoh and Ha man, and their hosts, what they were dreading from them. 6 We inspired Moses' mother saying, "Suckle him, and then, when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and have no fear and do not grieve, for We shall return him to you, and shall make him one of the Messengers." 7 Then the people of Pharaoh picked him up (from the river): (It was intended) that (Moses) should be to them an adversary and a cause of sorrow: for Pharaoh and Haman and (all) their hosts were men of sin. 8 And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that). 9 The mother of Moses was perturbed in the morning. Had We not strengthened her heart to remain a believer she had almost given him away. 10 She told his sister: "Follow him." So she kept an eye on him from a distance, unbeknown to them. 11 ۞ We had forbidden to him before that he should be suckled by foster mothers, therefore she (Moses' sister) said (to them): 'Shall I direct you to a people of a household who will take charge of him for you and advise him' 12 And thus We restored him to his mother, so that her eye might be gladdened, and that she might grieve no longer, and that she might know that God's promise always comes true - even though most of them know it not! 13
