Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ta-Sin-Mim [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings] 1 These are verses of the Manifest Book. 2 We recite unto thee of the story of Musa and Fir'awn with truth for a people who believe. 3 Behold, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and divided its people into castes. One group of them he deemed utterly low; he would slaughter their sons and spare (only) their women: for, behold, he was one of those who spread corruption [on earth]. 4 And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors 5 And to establish them in the land, and We let Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Haman and their hosts receive from them that which they feared. 6 And We revealed to Musa's mothers, saying: Give him suck, then when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear nor grieve; surely We will bring him back to you and make him one of the apostles. 7 Then the people of Pharaoh picked him up (from the river): (It was intended) that (Moses) should be to them an adversary and a cause of sorrow: for Pharaoh and Haman and (all) their hosts were men of sin. 8 And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that). 9 On the other hand, the heart of Moses' mother was sorely distressed. Had We not strengthened her heart that she might have full faith (in Our promise), she would have disclosed the secret. 10 And she said to the sister of (Moses), "Follow him" so she (the sister) watched him in the character of a stranger. And they knew not. 11 ۞ We had decreed that the infant must not be breast-fed by any nurse besides his mother. His sister said to the people of the Pharaoh, "May I show you a family who can nurse him for you with kindness?" 12 So We restored him unto his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true. Yet most of them know not. 13
