Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ta. Sin. Mim. 1 These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain. 2 We recite unto thee of the story of Musa and Fir'awn with truth for a people who believe. 3 The Pharaoh had become high and mighty in the land, and divided the people into different classes, and impoverished one class, slaying its males and sparing its women, for he was indeed a tyrant. 4 And We wished to do a favour to those who were weak (and oppressed) in the land, and to make them rulers and to make them the inheritors, 5 and to establish them in the land, and to show Pharaoh and Ha man, and their hosts, what they were dreading from them. 6 And We inspired the mother of Moses, saying: Suckle him and, when thou fearest for him, then cast him into the river and fear not nor grieve. Lo! We shall bring him back unto thee and shall make him (one) of Our messengers. 7 Then Pharaoh's household picked him up (from the river) that he may be their adversary and be a cause of sorrow to them. Surely Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts erred (in their scheming). 8 The Pharaoh's wife said: "He will be a comfort to me and to you. Do not kill him. He may well be of some advantage to us, or we may adopt him as a son." They were not aware (of what the future held in store). 9 And in the morning, the heart of Moosa’s mother became impatient; and she would have almost certainly given away his secret had We not strengthened her heart, so that she may have faith in Our promise. 10 And she said to his [Musa's (Moses)] sister: "Follow him." So she (his sister) watched him from a far place secretly, while they perceived not. 11 ۞ And We had already forbidden suckle-nurses for him, so she said, “Shall I show you a household that will nurse this child of yours, and they are his well-wishers?” 12 So We gave him back to his mother that her eye might be refreshed, and that she might no grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true, but most of them do not know. 13
