۞ And We indeed sent down the Word continuously for them, so that they may ponder. 51 Those to whom We sent the Book before this,- they do believe in this (revelation): 52 And when it is read out to them, say: "We believe in it. It's the truth from our Lord. We had committed ourselves before it came." 53 These will receive double reward for their forbearance, replacing evil by virtue, and for their spending for the cause of God. 54 And when they hear idle talk they turn aside from it and say: We shall have our deeds and you shall have your deeds; peace be on you, we do not desire the ignorant. 55 You cannot guide whom you please; it is Allah who guides whom He will. He knows well those who are guided. 56 They say: "If we were to follow this guidance with you, we should be snatched away from our land." Have We not established for them a secure sanctuary to which fruits of all kinds are brought as a provision from Us? But most of them do not know. 57 How many a city We have destroyed that flourished in insolent ease! Those are their dwelling-places, undwelt in after them, except a little; Ourselves are the inheritors. 58 But your Lord does not destroy habitations without having sent an apostle to their metropolis to read out Our commandments to them. We would never have destroyed cities if their inhabitants were not given to wickedness. 59 Whatsoever has been given you is the stuff this life is made of, and only its embellishment. What is with your Lord is better and abiding. Will you not understand? 60
