The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 Within a few years. Allah's is the command before and after; and on that day the believers shall rejoice, 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. 10
