The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not journeyed in the land and observed what wise hath been the end of those before them? They were stronger than they in power and they broke up the earth and they inhabited it with greater affluence than these have inhabited it, and their apostles came unto them with evidences. And Allah was not one to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of Allah and they were wont to mock at them. 10
