The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 in the victory of Allah. Allah gives victory to whosoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of Allah and they were wont to mock at them. 10
