The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware. 7 Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? They were stronger than these in power, and they dug the earth and built upon it more than these have built. Messengers of their own came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). Surely Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of God, and they derided them. 10
