The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whomever He wills; and only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 5 It is a promise of Allah. Allah faileth not His promise, but most of mankind know not. 6 They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. 7 What, have they not considered within themselves? God created not the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, save with the truth and a stated term; yet most men disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
