The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 Defeated have been the Byzantines 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
