The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 5 (It is) a Promise of Allah (i.e. Allah will give victory to the Romans against the Persians), and Allah fails not in His Promise, but most of men know not. 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their apostles with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of God, and they derided them. 10
