The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. 8 What, have they never journeyed in the land and seen what was the end of those before them? They were stronger in might than themselves, and they plowed the land and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it. And to them, their Messengers came with clear signs, and Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. 10
