The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 in a nearby land. They will reverse their defeat with a victory 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
