The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Roman Empire has been defeated- 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
