The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, 4 in God's help; God helps whomsoever He will; and He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (i.e. the matters of their livelihood, like irrigating or sowing or reaping, etc.), and they are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the earth that they may observe what was the end of their predecessors who were far mightier and tilled the land and built upon it more than these have ever built? And Allah's Messengers came to them with Clear Signs. It was not Allah Who wronged them, but it is they who wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
