The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 Defeated have been the Byzantines 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 (This is) Allah's promise! Allah will not fail His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. 10
