The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, 4 in God's help; God helps whomsoever He will; and He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
