The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Roman Empire has been defeated- 2 (within a few years) they will be victorious. 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 in the victory of Allah. Allah gives victory to whosoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware. 7 Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. 10
