The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 Within a few years. Allah's is the command before and after; and on that day the believers shall rejoice, 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware. 7 Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of Allah and they were wont to mock at them. 10
