In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ya Sin. 1 By oath of the wise Qur’an. 2 Indeed you, [O Muhammad], are from among the messengers, 3 on a straight path, 4 This is a revelation sent down from the Majestic and All-merciful 5 That thou mayst warn a folk whose fathers were not warned, so they are heedless. 6 Assuredly the word hath been justified against most of them, wherefore they shall not believe. 7 We have bound their necks with fetters up to their chin, so that their heads are raised and cannot be lowered. 8 We have set a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and, We have covered them so that they do not see. 9 thus, it is all one to them whether thou warnest them or dost not warn them: they will not believe. 10 You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward. 11 Lo! We it is Who bring the dead to life. We record that which they send before (them, and their footprints. And all things We have kept in a clear Register. 12

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
