And a sign for them is the dead earth; We gave it life and We produced from it grain, so they eat from it. 33 and We made therein gardens of palms and vines, and therein We caused fountains to gush forth, 34 That they may eat of the fruit thereof, and their hands made it not. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Holy is He Who created all things in pairs, whether it be of what the earth produces, and of themselves, and of what they do not know. 36 And a sign for them is the night, We withdraw therefrom the day, and behold, they are in darkness. 37 And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing. 38 We have ordained phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk. 39 Neither is it allowable to the sun that it should overtake the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day; and all float on in a sphere. 40 And a sign for them is that We carried their seed in the laden ship, 41 And We have created for them of the like thereunto whereon they ride. 42 Had We wanted, We could have drowned them and nothing would have been able to help or rescue them 43 except through Our Mercy and as enjoyment for awhile. 44 When they are told, "Fear ye that which is before you and that which will be after you, in order that ye may receive Mercy," (they turn back). 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 When they are told: "Spend of what God has given you," the unbelievers say to those who believe: "Why should we feed those whom God should have fed if He pleased?" You are only in palpable error. 47 And they say: when will this promise be fulfilled if ye say sooth? 48 They await not but one shout, which shall lay hold of them while they are yet wrangling. 49 Then they will be unable to make a will, nor shall they return to their kinsmen. 50
