And a sign for them is the dead land. We gave it life, and We brought forth from it grains, so that they eat thereof. 33 And We make therein gardens of palms and grapevines and We make springs to flow forth in it, 34 so that they may eat its fruit, though it was not their hands that made this. Will they not then be grateful? 35 Holy is He Who created all things in pairs, whether it be of what the earth produces, and of themselves, and of what they do not know. 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip the day out of it, thereupon they are in darkness. 37 The sun runs to its fixed resting place; that is the decree of the Almighty, the Knower. 38 We have appointed stages for the moon till it returns in the shape of a dry old branch of palm-tree. 39 It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming. 40 And a sign to them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship. 41 And We have created for them similar ships, in which they now ride. 42 And if We will, We shall drown them, and there will be no shout (or helper) for them (to hear their cry for help) nor will they be saved. 43 But (by) mercy from Us and for enjoyment till a time. 44 When they are told, "Fear ye that which is before you and that which will be after you, in order that ye may receive Mercy," (they turn back). 45 Never does any Sign of their Lord come to them, but they turn away from it. 46 And when it is said to them: "Spend of that with which Allah has provided you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Shall we feed those whom, if Allah willed, He (Himself) would have fed? You are only in a plain error." 47 And they say: when will this promise be fulfilled if ye say sooth? 48 They wait not for aught but a single cry which will overtake them while they yet contend with one another. 49 And they will not be able to make a disposition, nor to their family they return. 50
