A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat. 33 And We have placed therein gardens of the date-palm and grapes, and We have caused springs of water to gush forth therein, 34 that they might eat of its fruits and their hands' labour. What, will they not be thankful? 35 Limitless in His glory is He who has created opposites in whatever the earth produces, and in men's own selves, and in that of which [as yet] they have no knowledge. 36 And a sign to them is the night: We draw forth from it the day, then lo! they are in the dark; 37 And the sun runs his course for a period determined for him: that is the decree of (Him), the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing. 38 We have appointed stages for the moon till it returns in the shape of a dry old branch of palm-tree. 39 The sun shall not outstrip the moon, nor shall the night outstrip the day. Each is floating in an orbit. 40 And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship, 41 And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride. 42 Had We wanted, We could have drowned them and nothing would have been able to help or rescue them 43 Unless by Our benevolence, to reap advantage for a time. 44 When it is said to them: 'Have fear of that which is before you and behind you in order that you find mercy' 45 Not a Sign comes to them from among the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away therefrom. 46 And when it is said to them: "Spend of that with which Allah has provided you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Shall we feed those whom, if Allah willed, He (Himself) would have fed? You are only in a plain error." 47 They say, "When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They wait not for aught but a single cry which will overtake them while they yet contend with one another. 49 So they shall not be able to make a bequest, nor shall they return to their families. 50
