Let the dead earth be a Sign for them. We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. 33 We made in it gardens of date-palms and vines, and We caused springs to gush forth 34 That they may eat of the fruit thereof; and their hands worked it not. Will they not, therefore, give thanks? 35 Limitless in His glory is He who has created opposites in whatever the earth produces, and in men's own selves, and in that of which [as yet] they have no knowledge. 36 And a sign to them is the night: We draw forth from it the day, then lo! they are in the dark; 37 And the sun runs its course for its final destination; this is a command of the Almighty, the All Knowing. 38 We have appointed stages for the moon till it returns in the shape of a dry old branch of palm-tree. 39 It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit. 40 And [it ought to be] a sign for them that We bear their offspring [over the seas] in laden ships, 41 and We have created for them the like of it whereon they ride; 42 If it were Our Will, We could drown them: then would there be no helper (to hear their cry), nor could they be delivered, 43 It is only Our Mercy (that rescues them) and enables enjoyment of life for a while. 44 And when it is said unto them: fear that which is before you and that which is behind you, that haply ye may find mercy, they withdraw. 45 Never came a token of the tokens of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it! 46 And when it is said to them: Spend out of what Allah has given you, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error. 47 And they say: when will this promise be fulfilled if ye say sooth? 48 They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing. 49 Then they will not be able to make a will or return to their families. 50
