۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
