۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 on couches facing each other. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
