۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
