۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
