۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 What, do we then not die 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
