۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They found their father going astray 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
