۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world); 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 On couches facing one another; 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
