۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 “And stop them they are to be questioned.” 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 What, do we then not die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
