۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
