۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
