۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
