۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They found their father going astray 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
