۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 yet they run in their footsteps, 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
