۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
