۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
