۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
