۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 What, do we then not die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
