۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 What, do we then not die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
