۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Then, are we not to die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
