And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), whether the daughters are for your Lord and the sons for them! 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 They used to say before: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
