So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 can lure away from God any 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 They say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace upon the messengers. 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
