And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So you and your deities 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 And there were those who said, 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
